We stayed around the neighb the entire weekend. It was wonderful! Friday night we had dinner reservations at Resto. Think classics with a twist- deviled eggs, pimms cup, fries with a variety of dipping sauces. Then there was twirling in the snowy streets, glow sticks and other silly things I can't completely explain ;)

Hello, darlings! What do you have going on this weekend? Alan and I don't have too much going on AGAIN and I'm simply giddy over it. Tonight we have reservations with friends at a neighborhood restaurant that I have been dying to try. Their slogan is "fat is back." I'm down with it.

Don't these sunshine-hued tulips make you smile? I was asleep yesterday when Alan got home from work as I've been a bit under the weather. He sat on the edge of the bed, gently woke me, and I found these staring back at me. He also told me I was beautiful, which was definitely one of those "only because you're my husband" moments, because I was probably drooling on myself. Bless him! Needless to say, I'm already in the best mood for a day or two off!

On an unrelated note, I recently paid a visit to Mood here in NYC. Brings back grad school memories, but thankfully this time this project is not going to be critiqued by my neurotic fashion professor, just me, which may be worse. I found the purrrr-fect fabric for the drapes I've been coveting...

Among the many amazing companies I saw at the NYIGF, Waylande Gregory was at top of my love list!

The former artist garnered a long list of impressive accolades including having been considered the most important ceramist of 1925-1950.

The booth was helmed by his grandson (?), someone in his family nonetheless, and I love the story behind his stunning work.

His line is the definition of playful sophistication. My favorites are his bright, whimsical pieces that would be insanely perfect on my bar cart!

Weekend Picture Book

Holy indulge. After seeing the round-up of my weekend pics, I have a sudden urge to go to the gym! I grocery shopped at Mario Batali's Eataly and came home with the makings for the best Italian dinner.

Alan was welcomed home by prosciutto, ricotta, olives, fresh pasta with octopus and red pesto with truffles, and vino of course! Ridonk.

I woke up early Saturday morning to set out for a coffee run and came back with flowers...for myself. Do it.

There was a long drawn out brunch with a most darling bestie in the West Village starting with Sope Ranchero at Empellon.

It extended on to Agave and a silly amount of cocktails including this delish tequila mojito. We had some catching up to do ;)

I told you...silly.amount.of.cocktails. If I shared all the pics, my mom would be calling.

Did y'all watch the Super Bowl? It was an exciting time to be in the city. As soon as the Giants won, the streets erupted in exciting shrieks and chanting. We couldn't help but to throw on our coats and partake a bit ;) Hope y'all had a wonderful weekend, darlings!

Darlings, what do you have planned this weekend? We actually started our weekend a little early last night with a visit to our favorite hole-in-the-wall Italian in Chelsea so I feel inspired to pretend that I'm Italian the rest of the weekend ;)

Tonight I plan on welcoming Alan home with a home cooked meal- cheese plates, italian meats, fresh pasta, and vino! Thankfully Mario Batali's Eataly is nearby to help with the mission. side note: Doesn't their "market" page design make you happy?!

If you're cocktailing it, I highly recommend this blood orange gin sparkler by 101 Cookbooks. I tried it this week and it was simply fantastic! Cheers to weekending y'all!

The unexpected (disastrous!) nature of our recent move, left me with two things 1) a brand new, EMPTY apartment and 2) champagne taste, which let's be serious, has always been there ;), and a beer budget! ha!

I'm going to have to bust out a bunch of DIY's to get the style I want, and I'll be sharing them all right here! This DIY by Jenny Komenda might be out of my reach, but I sure do want the Lido bed linens by Olatz look.

My proudest accomplishment is definitely launching my blog. I hardly knew what a blog was or much on social media prior to 2011. To learn all that within the year and got recommended to be on a CBS News segment as a lifestyle blogger, giving my expertise, I'd say I was pretty proud.

Your greatest aspiration for 2012?

My greatest aspiration is to take my blog to the next level and launch my own business/service in the field of personal shopping. After all, the saying goes "do what you love", right? There's no doubt I love shopping so why not spread the love around! :)

In my efforts to stay positive in what has been a particularly stressful time in my life, I find myself repeating this quote over and over again. I'd like to say it has kept me from raiding my bar cart 5 out of 7 nights a week, but that would be a lie.

This color seems to help with the sanity and overall well-being too. If I had an assistant I would send her on a mission to locate these sunshine yellow drapes. She would know it in her best interest to locate them immediately.

Your proudest accomplishment in 2011?

My proudest accomplishment for 2011 was getting my business off the ground and debuting my collection of wallpaper at ICFF in May. It took a lot of planning and sleepless nights since I was still working my full time corporate design job but I persevered through and made it happen! Another big accomplishment was deciding to leave my corporate design job in August and start freelancing on my own. 2011 has been full of big and scary decisions and I have no regrets!

Your greatest aspiration for 2012?

Professionally my biggest aspiration for 2012 is to continue to grow my company. I am introducing my new products at the end of the month and I would love for a bigger percentage of my income to come from my business so I have more time to dedicate to it. Personally my biggest aspiration for 2012 is to have more fun! Whenever I find myself smiling I want to stop and think about what I am doing and think about how I can create more of that in my life.In the attached photo is some of my favorite parts of 2012. Working on getting everything together for the launch, speaking at an apartment therapy event and getting my first print mention in Interior Design Magazine!

I have every intention of bringing the bar cart back. You see, I'm enamored with the retro ritual of cocktail hour and plainly, I like to drink! Society Social is my testament to that. Some days I wonder if my revival is working and other days I smile to myself when I get notes like "This made me think of you."

In the spirit of Chinese New Year (the color red is supposedly good luck!) and because this is the year I'm making red my signature color, I wanted to share some of my Essie faves. At the top is Lollipop, it's an easy, classic, everyday red. Clambake has a bit of spunky orange in it. Its fiery and reminds me of warm summer nights perfect for, well, clambakes at the beach! The last one dubbed First Dance is a deep, passionate red perfect for that hot date ;) What's your polish rotation? Is there another red I need to know about?

My darling cousins invited Alan and I over for a Chinese New Year dinner after finishing up our move last weekend!

Growing up we always celebrated Chinese New Year (I'm half Chinese!) with a tradition centered around little red envelopes. Just like these! Mom and Dad would put a couple dollars in them before handing them out to my siblings and I. You're not supposed to spend the money, rather hang on to it for good luck! We fell out of the tradition as we grew up and moved away, but every time I see a crimson colored envelope, I think of this simple family tradition with a smile and a little hope for luck :)

Last year was a big year for me...I took a leap of faith and launched my very own company Delightfully Chic!!

Hands down my greatest accomplishment of 2011!

I studied fashion in college and traveled to work couture shows in the magical city of Paris and as I am 100% obsessed with fashion...when I thought of taking a chance and following my dreams it was home decor I went for!

I can't even tell you the last time I was THIS excited about a new year! 2012 to me just sends all kinds of crazy good vibes! In the new year I say so-long to my twenties and hello to my thirties! January 7th (the big day) will be a day I celebrate and embrace a new decade...with stiff drink in hand to guide me through this transition of course! ; )

What I want to accomplish more than anything in this new year (don't ya just love fresh starts...anything is possible) is to take my company to the next level...expand the collection and share my love for fashion and interior with the world!

I believe in dreaming big and following through on those dreams...ANYTHING is possible!

You are probably wondering why I have blue and white thought bubbles coming out of my top hat. It is because I have so many great ideas for the new year!

In 2011, my proudest accomplishment was deciding to do what I love and sharing my positive spirit with others by taking a leap of faith to pursue my passion for helping others achieve their dream event. This accomplishment came with the birth of ever swoon LLC, my boutique wedding and event planning and styling company that I started in Manhattan.

This endeavor allowed me the opportunity to control my schedule and volunteer my time with an organization that is close to my heart, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. I joined the Manhattan chapter this past year and was thrilled to have achieved the solicitation of the most auction items for our fundraisers. The more people I can educate about CF will help us build awareness about the medical breakthroughs that are taking place today because of generous contributors.

My greatest aspiration for 2012 is to successfully and officially launch ever swoon LLC and achieve respect in the event industry by creating magic for my clients that surpasses their expectations. I aspire to help as many people as possible experience "the happiest day of their lives". Do you ever swoon?

My proudest accomplishment in 2011?

My proudest accomplishment of 2011… was finding a balance between my hobby as a blogger and my graduate program. Both sort of demand a lot of attention, and I never expected that the "twain could ever meet." But midway through last year I decided to just take a chance, make some changes, and go after new opportunities whenever possible. Working with Matchbook and blogging itself has become a challenging creative outlet and a wonderful compliment to my work. I think it goes without saying that design in action is much more fun than design in theory!

My greatest aspiration for 2012?

…is to finally graduate with my Master's! Going back to school is one of the hardest things I've ever done, but it has also created a new passion for what I can do. I'm thankful for all that I've learned, and am excited (and a little nervous) to see where it takes me - hopefully back to NYC so I can have cocktails with you, Roxy!

Do you sometimes find regular cotton leggings to be too thin? Well I found this "Pixie" that I can only describe to be not quite a legging and not quite a pant. It's ponte. A double knit that is a great mix of softness and structure and thicker too for staying warm this winter! Do you own a wardrobe staple that I need to know about?

On a totally unrelated note, did anyone watch the Golden Globes last night? It was fun to chat and follow along on Twitter! I didn't have a stand out favorite as far as fashion, but I was loving how stinkin' cute Zooey Deschanel was and always is.

I'm such a fan of her not-take-myself-too-seriously attitude. It's positively refreshing!

A French Affair

My love affair with the French started at the age of 4. A bed sheet served as a veil as I wed my little playmate francais. I went on to study the language, all the way to the Cote d'Azur. I hosted a French exchange student. He kissed me on the neck. I cried. He was quite dashing, but a lot to handle at the age of 14!

Despite the near French kissing disaster, my love affair continues, and I'm currently trying to realign my lucky stars to include this charming French rental on the left bank. Wouldn't it be terribly lovely to wake up here? To slowly sip cafe au lait on a balcony overlooking Paris?

I can hardly believe this darling Parisian apartment can be mine for as little as 1650 euros for an entire week! And it sleeps four!

I just need one lucky couple to make this affordable for Alan and I. Who's in for Paris 2012?

It might be cheesy, but I must say becoming a mom. My husband and I had been trying to start a family for a little over 3 years and things just weren't working. We had gone to specialists and had a loss so finding out I was pregnant in April (after a return trip from High Point market!) was a complete surprise.

Your Greatest Aspiration for 2012

To continue to grow my interior design business and blog to the point where my husband could come on and work with me full time. Right now the poor guy works his normal full time job with crazy hours and then helps me with my business during those extra hours in the day.

Your Greatest Accomplishment in 2011

2011 was the year I left a salaried job to chase after what I felt I was supposed to be doing; designing. I was terrified, but figured it was now when my husband and I had no children and no mortgage, or never. Leaving that job opened the door for my design work at Lonny, which fulfilled a 10 year dream of laying pages for a magazine. It's an amazing feeling to have my name on a masthead-- my heart is absolutely in publications.

Your Greatest Aspiration for 2012

This year is definitely a turning point for me. Last year was, at first, about finding my career path. Then I was in an extremely serious car accident, which I wish I could say hasn't affected, but of course it has. Dreams and aspirations are amazing, but oh lordy health insurance is important too. So 2012 is about making a living out of those dreams. I'm assisting Jenny Komenda with interior design work, which I've found so satisfying, after many years of essentially manipulating pixels. The tactile experience, the errand running to new, out-of-the-way stores (I love getting out of the city!), room installs-- it's an energizing process. I'd love to try my hand at styling too, but baby steps first!

Weekend Picture Book

Alan and I had a wonderful weekend around the city. We were out as much as possible, and it was just the thing to get my mind off things! Brace yourself for the longest weekend picture book ever! First stop Saxon + Parole in Noho.

We met our friends Cindy and Adam who have been Manhattanites for years. They are never short of a good laugh and are always full of suggestions for tasty cocktails and fantastic eats! Saxon + Parole serves up classic cocktails, some with a twist.

We caught up over a variety of noteworthy tipples...
...an old fashioned, g & t's, a few celery gimlets later, then we were off to stop number 2, Peels. Just a short walk from Saxon + Parole, the restaurant is, according to nymag.com, located "on a tricked-up stretch of the Bowery, which is fast becoming lower Manhattan’s answer to the Champs-Élysées."

Cool points for sure, but I think we were most excited about the southern offerings! For the table, a round of fried chicken! Unlike the picture (courtesy of peelsnyc.com) it came atop a serving of sweet potato mash. Sweet southern goodness y'all!

After-dinner drinks took us to the Black Market, stop number 3, but who's counting? I have to praise Cindy and Adam for their ability to seek out the best of NYC as the cocktails were amazing. Alan opted for a Russian Roulette that all made us feel like we were out ordered, but I really can't complain as the table boasted just as delicious old fashioned's and gin concoctions.

Not quite done with the night we headed to a sister joint and number four, Cabin Down Below, which is literally in the "basement" below Black Market. I was immediately a fan, but it must be said I'm a sucker for a good "speakeasy" type venue. The lighting was most flattering, think flickering candle light, and the crowd completely hipster. Thanks to our dates, we were even permitted to a section of the bar that entering can be hit or miss depending if the Olsens decide to make an appearance. Fittingly so, we wrapped up a fantastic NYC night with a little bubbly!

On Saturday I was entirely excited to have an afternoon date with Naomi Stein of Design Manifest! You've probably seen her digs on Design Sponge (holy awesome), and I'm so excited to be working with her in decorating our new place. We met at the Ace Hotel, but due to the huge crowd of like-minded day drinkers, we went from the lounge-y lobby to the adjoining oyster bar. Then gin happened after something like, "I'll drink if you drink." Peer pressure is the best.

We've exchanged many emails (lots of good stuff to come!) so it was a delight getting to meet. I love Naomi's sense of humor that comes through on her blog, but it was even better in person! I feel super lucky to have found someone who really gets me and is equally fun to work with. Here's a peek of the textiles in "my file!"

After what I consider to have been a successful first date, Alan and I meandered around the city in weather that felt more like Fall than early January. It was an absolutely beautiful day that ended with dinner at one of our regular Italian spots in Chelsea and a fast becoming habit of puppy playing. I feel like I'm soon going to break. She's ness, right?

Sunday bought brunch and more walkabouts, but I probably lost most of you 5 minutes back so if you're still with me, I'll leave you with the hope that you had an equally refreshing weekend and a wish for a fabulous week to come :)

I'm usually drawn to rooms more along the lines of this, but for some reason I kept coming back to this image on Jenny Komenda's pinterest board. I find myself gazing at it and breathing a sigh of relief. It's clean, uncluttered, effortless. All of which evoke a sense of calm and relaxation- I would be infinitely grateful for both at the moment. Not to mention those grand balcony doors!

I'm incredibly frustrated. Three weeks of suffering, two visits to two different doctors and nothing has worked. Another doctor tomorrow and another on Monday and mounting medical bills. I pride myself on holding it together, but this afternoon I hit my breaking point. All I could do was cry ... and dream that I was somewhere far-off, exotic floating around in this dress without a worry in the world. And a very stiff cocktail of course.

Tonight Alan and I will be boarding the 1920's style Yacht Manhattan for a holiday sunset cruise around the New York Harbor complete with cocoa, champers, and Christmas carols by the Chelsea opera! I first read about the tours on Joanna's blog, and I can't think of a better way to kick off our first Christmas in the city :) Merry Christmas, darlings!

Cafe Cluny

Last night my dearest cousin Anna came over for cocktails! I had run to the store earlier that day to pick up some Grey Goose because as I say, "This is not college, I do not have two days to recover." Solid justification for top shelf, right? ;)

I live on the west side around the Hell's Kitchen neighb so we hopped the subway straight for the West Village for our dinner date at Cafe Cluny which is nestled in the darling cobblestone corner of West 4th and West 12th. We had so much catching up to do that we missed our stop, but we didn't mind having to do a little more walking...and a little more talking. Besides, the West Village is my fave for walkabouts especially when you're in the best company!

Our seats weren't ready so we settled in at the bar for another drink (surprise) and Anna beat me to ordering my go-to, gin and tonic! It was my first time at Cafe Cluny and I after taking in the quaint, warmly lit dining space, I noticed that the entire staff wore stripes. Love a good stripe!

I rarely eat meat so I opted for seafood and ordered the pan roasted organic salmon. It came with local turnips, roasted butternut squash, roasted mushrooms, and risotto. Incredibly good and cooked to perfection!

We shared the octopus, I think it was grilled? It disappeared so fast that I don't have much of a description to offer up except- mmm!

Ann ordered the Cluny hamburger and as usual if there is a fry on the table, I have to steal one. Everything was delicious. NY Mag calls it American-French panache.

It was one of those lovely, leisurely dinners with lots of talk of fond memories and excitedly making plans now that we are basically neighbors-- we've always lived several states apart! The check came with sweet treats, the richest morsels of dark chocolate and the Mr. who was finally able to join us after being stuck late at work!

We ended the night with a few more cocktails (lush, who?) at White Horse Tavern, a pub I used to frequent while still in grad school. Not much has changed about it, the pub and my love for NYC. It's really great to be back :)

Well darlings, I'm signing off for a few to enjoy the holiday! I hope you liked coming along on my little dinner date! There will be much more to come. For now, if you are celebrating, I hope your holiday season is filled with loved ones and many blessings!

Our Christmas Tree

I didn't think we would have a tree this year, what with the move and traveling so much for work. Alan flew to NC to spend time with our families for Christmas before taking me home to our apartment to spend the holiday just the two of us. I walked in to find the most darling tree (eep! One doesn't necessarily think of the holidays and squeezing in date nights. What with holiday socials, feasts, and family gatherings to attend. But Alan and I always try to make a little time for the two of us, the weather is conducive to snuggling after all!

1. Cozy up in must-have cashmere and turn up the Christmas tunes. This album is my fave!

2. Fill the house with the delicious smell of the holidays. I prefer these mulling spices. Don't forget to use them for hot toddies too!

3. Dig up some of your shared favorite cookie recipes, perhaps some festive and fun new cookie cutters too. I love the classic chocolate chip. Alan thinks all sugar tastes the same. Silly. Set aside a few for Santa.

4. Snuggle up on the couch for your favorite holiday movie. We like to watch Love Actually; it was our first date! And then perhaps a little of this ;)

Christmas for Two

This December will mark the first year that Alan and I will be spending Christmas just the two of us. We're celebrating with our families a week before then heading back to the city. Honestly, I have to say I'm a little nervous.

Will we be able to re-create the family traditions we've grown to love? Will it feel like Christmas without a decorated house full of bustling family? With me traveling and working so much, we haven't even had time to make our apartment a home, much less decorate.

I'm working my way through the minor anxiety with small steps and things I'm familiar with. I think I'm on my way to creating a few holiday traditions of our own :) Have you been in a similar situation? I would love to know how you made it special!

Never would I have imagined that my new Orangerie duchess chairs would inspire her to bring her super snazzy style over to the new NYC apartment via mood board! "I envision this is a small apartment of a city gal who loves traditional-with-a-twist and certainly isn’t afraid of color." Well, hot damn. She figured me out quicker than my own husband.

After months of scheming and designing, I'm excited to announce the latest addition to the Society Social Hostess offerings the "On the Rocks" cocktail collection! My little bambabies! I teamed up with darling jewelry designer of Loren Hope to create sparkling cocktail rings perfect for the cocktail-laden hand. The shank is custom-designed (our craftsman actually wittled down a mold! craze.) and incorporates elements from my bar carts- think faux bamboo!!

We only used genuine gemstones and glass cabachons, some vintage, to keep the rings snazzy and classy. holler. With me traveling almost 3 weeks out of December and Christmas now being a bi-state affair, it looks like I will not have the pleasure of dressing a tree. I was reminded of this as I was putzing around Apartment Therapy and stumbled upon several creative alternatives. While clever and most inventive, I just couldn't quite get excited about not having a tree.
We've never been the type to buy one of those crazy tinsel-ly whites one, or even an artificial one at that, and the absence of this tradition is making me quite nostalgic! I love the rich smell of pine and ornaments glittering amongst the twinkle lights.

I'd love to know what you do when such "tree-less" years face you. Doesn't Febreze have some kind of Christmas tree scent to help ease the pain? ;) Below- Alan and I on a more traditional, less travel-ridden year!

One more inch and that my friend is a bed.

Scale, scale, scale. While I would love nothing more than to have this big daddy lounger in our new place, it would leave people asking "Would you like any room with your sofa?" This is a sore topic. I begrudingly gave in to the Mr. who insisted like the world would be over if he didn't get his way that we needed a monstrous (okay, I exxagerate, but I'm bitter) sleeper sofa.

I agree we will have guests galore considering our location, but it's totally throwing me, even if it is covered in the pretty metallic fabric that I picked out. Everytime I see an adorable more peitite piece, this happens-*Le sigh* I'm pretty sure Alan wants to trade out his presh sofa at this point ;) Have you won, or lost if you're me, any decorating battles lately? Let's lament together.

How the Duchess was born...

Deciding below with my cutter and sewer, Janie (who I've known since before my baby sis was born!) where to place the patterns for my Society Social Duchess who eventually won the honor of Orangerie! We decided not to center spot to eliminate as much waste as possible, and I really like how the repeats aren't identically placed on each chair. I feel that a little less "put together" adds balance and a bit of charm to such a sophisticated print.

We used a double self welt for the seat back border because you seriously just cannot get enough of this fabric and then were off to upholstery! Abel has been so wonderful in helping me with all my diy (ahem, do-it-someone else) projects and as always did an impeccable job despite me excitedly watching over his shoulder!

Not long after, there was happy dancing! I'm just so smitten with how the Duchesses turned out!

Earlier this week my tufted ottoman went through the same process. I chose a cut velvet geo pattern for a tactile element, and I'm loving how the "citrine" acts as more of a neutral to ground the over-the-top accent chairs.

Well, what do you think? pssst! I'm planning on adding many more fabrics to the Society Social site (this being one of them. not so bad being the guinea pig ;) would love to know if you agree!

My Little Piece of NYC

The NYC digs are coming along quite nicely, if you disregard the lofty (was I delusional?) ambition to have it decorated by my birthday, which needless to say, has come and gone. My excuse is that I'd like our place to come about "organically." Right? Right! Anyways, I've slowly been mulling over lamps, art, ottomans, fabrics, drapes, and I thought I'd share a few of my fun finds!

ART!

Alan doesn't know it yet, but I'm secretly making pink a sneaky accent color. He can't argue this painting, it has one of his favorite colors in it too-- a shade of it anyways ;) I really adore the layers of peonies and the romance that this print by Cozamia evokes. It also goes perfectly with my Chinoiserie meets Paris vibe!

OTTOMANS!

My tufted ottoman came through production yesterday. I almost passed out when I saw it. I chose a Robert Allen cut velvet in Citrine. It looks pretty snaz, if I do say so myself :) I think it's going to be the perfect spot to prop up our feet, while serving as additional seating when we have guests. I'll definitely need a tray to make a flat surface for trinkets and such. Coffee table chic here I come!

FABRICS!
I've been holding on to this beaut since the beginning of October and can't quite decide what to do with it! Make it a resin table top or pillows? HELP!!

SMALL SPACE SOLUTIONS!

Since we have chosen location over space, I've put in an order to myself (this cracks me for some reason) for my Society Social Dinner Party folding table. It folds down to just 7 inches when not in use! As a lover of good food, tasty bevs, and fabulous company, this is a must at the O household. I chose red as I have decided to make it my signature color; everyone should have one!

LIGHTING!

Our everyday china is a set from the MIL that we've had for years now. It's one of my fave classic blue and white patterns like so! I've been collecting similar vases, and I'm now on the hunt for a matching ginger jar table lamp. The image below is Tory Burch's home as seen in Vogue.
