Food (cocktail) Adventures: Cherry mojitos

In honor of thirsty Thursday and those of you who couldn't wait to get the weekend started, here's a fabulous recipe by my go-to girl Giada that I first tried out on New Year's Eve at Wrightsville beach, and then subsequently at S's going away party, a spin on the traditional mojito- Cherry mojitos! I cut the sugar in half and added a tidge more alcohol ;) , but other than that the recipe is, by my standards, deliciously untouchable!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound bag frozen pitted cherries
  • 2 cups crushed ice, plus extra to serve
  • 1/2 cup packed fresh mint leaves
  • 1/3 cup fresh lime juice (about 3 limes)
  • 1 cup citrus flavored rum (Bacardi Limon for My Cup of Te!)
  • 1 2/3 cups Lime Simple syrup, recipe follows (Use approx half for M.C.T)
  • Lime wedges and fresh cherries, for garnish

Directions

Place the frozen cherries, crushed ice, mint leaves, lime juice, rum, and simple syrup in a blender. Blend until smooth.

Pour the mixture into chilled glasses and top with crushed ice. Garnish with lime wedges and cherries.

Lime Simple Syrup

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 limes, zested

In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and lime zest over medium heat. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved. Remove the pan from the heat and allow the syrup to cool for 20 minutes. Strain before using.

Yield: 1 2/3 cups

Cheers lovies!

So Necessary: A Couture Cruiser

The woman: "She cruises to the park for a picnic brunch to celebrate her friend's birthday with a bunch of flowers tucked in her basket. She's looking sweet in raspberry and mint green. Her bike basket is lined in Couture Cruiser."

If you've gotten to know a little about me, you will already know that I broke out my 2009 Christmas present from the in-laws for the first time a few weekends ago! The bike rides wonderfully, but I'm majorly itching to give it a My Cup of Te makeover! Perhaps a little pink? A little orange?? ;)

In my mission to make my bike more me, I discovered this website- With its slogan being "roll in style," Couture Cruiser offers bike basket liners to add a little flair to your bike! The moodboard above describes the girl (or boy if that's how you roll, pun intended, ha!) who would choose Daisy Delilah, a multicolor floral print, for their basket. I have a bit of a different vision for the Delilah liner, but thought the inspiration was so cute so I had to share!

Aside from a dressed up basket, I also want to add a shiny bell and a fresh coat of paint!
Any suggestions lovies?
Bisous,
Roxy

The liner: The dainty Daisy Delilah

Turn "Left on Houston..."

It's almost that time of year (well in the South anyways!) when you have to dress for two seasons- winter in the morning and by night and spring in the afternoon!
A Vancouver based line, Left on Houston, boasts its strengths in re-inventing knits and mainly the cardi, which is so necessary when it's time to layer it up. I love this shot from their lookbook, but sans stylist on the actual shopping site, I was not as impressed- especially with the $139 price tag! I can, however, appreciate silk, cashmere, and cotton blends so if it's in your budget- go for it! As for me, a little inspiration never hurt!

Part 2: In honor of St. Patty's AND...

Photography by New Amsterdam

Enter, the Green Room!
When choosing paint colors for our little fixer upper, I wanted desperately to cover the walls of our powder room (ok, really it's just a bathroom, but powder room sounds cuter) in a fresh Kelly green. Seeing as I basically chose the paint for the rest of our place, I thought it only fair that the hub have the overall say in at least one room ;) I did not get my Kelly green, but I did get a happy hub who I have to thank for giving me free creative range more often than most!
With that said, here are some rooms that make me green with envy!

Isn't this just so inviting? Love the pop of pink, patterned rug, and vintage mirror.

For the love of Zebra! One of Kate and Andy Spade's bathrooms.

Green walls would've taken away from the beautiful high ceilings and detailed architecture of this tempting, exotic room! The designer knew exactly how to get this lovely hue into the picture...
Sophisticated green and gray combo in the Manhattan apartment of designer, Amanda Nisbet. C'est tres chic!

Do you want to run out and buy green paint yet? ;) Maybe one day I shall have my green room!!

I promised her I would do some wedding research, and I thought today would be a perfect opportunity to pay homage, not only to the luck of the Irish, but more importantly to her soon-to-be marvelously green nuptials! Here's a sampling of green mood boards to get you in the mood for love and St. Pat's!!

S, this first one reminded me the most of you!

Sing...I mean Swing, me to sleep...

After a day on my feet, all I want to do is get in bed....

...as in a bed swing! This one is definitely going in the "dream house." How perfect would this be for these slightly chilly, almost Spring days? A few plush throws, a pile of pillows, and voila, you have the fresh air of being outside, and the comfort of being in! I'll take it!! Along with a good book, a good snuggle buddy, and a good malbec...ahhhh
p.s. I'll also take that view of the water :)
