The Seoul Style Files of an American Expat

Did I tell you that the AE of SSF made it home just in time for Christmas? He only had 6 days state-side and before he hopped his plane back to South Korea, he added Seoul to my weather app on my smart phone. Lately it's been reading single digits on the reg., which seriously makes me want to cry for him and the whole city, and since everyone is dressing anti-hypothermic he decided to shoot headwear.  Seems as if the streets of Seoul are all pom-pom'd out! What would you be wearing in near sub-zero temps? I think I'd go all incognito like the last pic!

p.s. Notice banana man hanging out on the bottom left hand corner of all his pics? He has a new blog called Banana! The explanation will make you laugh out loud ;)

No Scope Seoul Style Files

Remember my brother the American Expat? Well it's been super cold on the streets of Seoul lately, as in single digits, so he's been snapping photos (no-scoping to be exact, he is the master) of unsuspecting subjects and their winter shoe steez. I made the mistake of wearing my Tory flats yesterday and my little toes almost froze off! I really needed booties like the ones in the second shot on the far left. Yes, please. Either that or a hot toddy ;) How do you keep warm out and about the city?

The Seoul Style Files of an American Expat. Sneakers and Sportcoats.

I recently told my brother that I think it is absolutely fantastic when men pair fun kicks with a would be basic or too serious ensemble. He took to the challenge and came back with an inventive look involving a hoodie, a button-up, a sport coat, a scarf, and some sneaks! Check it out...

Holy moley, have you ever seen so many layers look so not like Ralphie's little brother? For more on our series, The Seoul Style Files of an American Expat, click here. For tips on how to buy a blazer including a run down on distinguishing a blazer from a sport coat and a jacket, see here.

Interested in seeing more menswear looks? Let me know and my international style accomplice will scour the streets of Seoul to put together a look just for you!

The Seoul Style Files of an American Expat | Elbow Patches & Tweed

 My brother has developed a habit that would make any shop-a-holic proud. He often frequents Dongdaemun, a heaven mall filled with hundreds of boutique like spaces about 20 minutes from Seoul by subway, to pick up sweet deals and wardrobe staples. In the photo above, he's on his way to do it up at a swank hotel (bottoms up!) wearing a two button tweed sport coat with elbow patches, skinny fit dark khakis, and a classic light purple button up with a sleek brown skinny tie. His shoes are seriously cool, but he keeps it laid back with fun argyle socks! For more of his menswear looks, see here.

The Seoul Style Files of an American Expat | Scarf Steeze for Men

{Mr. Seoul Style File waiting for the bus!}

Remember my brother who lives in Seoul? Well he's back with some cold weather steeze. Growing up in a mini, often backwards, southern town many a man who dared wrap a scarf around his neck (you would've though it was a noose, never mind we were the only "chinky"-eyed around) would be subject to ridicule and smart ass remarks- Well, show 'em how it's done little bro! They wouldn't last for a second in Seoul! Check out Esquire for four ways to wear a scarf and for more inspiration see here and here.

Introducing: The Seoul Style Files of an American Expat | Military Chic

{Military inspired looks marched down the fall runways, personally most striking at Burberry Prorsum. From seriously structured silhouettes to hard edged jackets and modern epaulets each look was worthy of a 5 star salute.  LT rocks surplus style on the streets of Seoul!}

I've decided to take a mini break from my (let's be honest, self-absorbed) birthday countdown wish list to introduce a fun little series that I'm naming The Seoul Style Files of an American Expat! My brother, LT, moved to Seoul last year and has developed some majorly serious style along the way. We thought this might be a fun way for us to keep in touch since I couldn't walk 500 miles to visit and 500 more even if I wanted to, and it's also a great opportunity to blog about something else other than women's fashion because we all know I'm ob-sessed on a "I'm coming undone" kinda level!

Besides, his new what I like to call "The Sartorialist" worthy lens, must be put to good use since it nearly broke his kimchi and soju budget.  What do you think darlings?! Hey, check out this shot of his sweet new oxfords, the ones not shown in the shot above, and stay tuned for much more from The Seoul Style Files of an American Expat!
